Who Made It?

Alfred Mosher Butts, a New York architect, invented the popular board game Scrabble in 1931. He wanted to create a game which involved some luck and a lot of skill (and a large vocabulary)! Butts decided on the point-values of the letters by studying the front page of the New York Times.

When certain kinds of fish disappear, scientists look to marine biologists and ecologists to explain the changes they find. Those very marine biologists and ecologists will examine things like over-fishing, pollution, climate change, and loss of natural habitat size in their search for the cause.

The Caspian Sea is the world’s largest enclosed inland body of water. Its total surface area is a staggering 371,000 square kilometers. It contains 78,200 cubic km of water and is also the 3rd deepest lake in the world, reaching depths of 1,025 m below surface! Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Russia, and Azerbaijan surround the basin of the lake.
