The boiling point of water depends on barometric pressure, so these values only apply if you put the kettle on at sea level. At the top of Mt Everest, water will begin to boil at a mere 68 °C (154 °F)!

Onomatopoeic words can result in some interesting translations. Popular breakfast cereal Rice Krispies slogan ‘snap, crackle and pop’ in German became ‘Knisper! Knasper! Knusper!’ In France meanwhile its ‘Cric! Crac! Croc!’ and the Spanish say ‘Cris! Cras! Cros!’. Which one is your favorite?
