While countries like Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, and others all developed their own types of suits and decks, it was a French version with its diamonds, hearts, spades, and clubs that spread worldwide.

Compound eyes are the kinds you find on arthropods, for example: houseflies! These eyes can contain thousands of ommatidia, which are their own tiny photoreception units. Interestingly, compound eyes don't see well, but they can see many angles at once and are very good at detecting movement.

You’ve seen fireflies and heard of anglerfish, but could you have imagined that humans are bio-luminescent, too? Certain metabolic reactions cause us to glow. Sadly, though, our eyes would have to be 1000 times more sensitive to register our natural shine.
