Sandy Island, a land mass no larger than Manhattan in the Pacific Ocean, was discovered by James Cook in 1876. When a team of Australian scientists went to survey the island in 2012, they found that there was no island at all! They believe that Cook might have spotted a mass of floating volcanic stone and gas.

Medieval farm animals were much smaller than farm animals today. A full-grown bull was around the size of a modern calf, and sheep were only a third of the size they are today! Sheep nowadays yield an average of 3.32 kg (7.3 pounds) of wool, while it was not uncommon for medieval sheep to yield less than 0.05 kg (less than 1 pound)!

Is a tomato a fruit or a vegetable? In 1893, a ruling by the Supreme Court made the tomato a vegetable, officially! It is, however, actually a fruit. It seems as though the age-old debate will continue on for generations!
