Lebanon is one of the world’s oldest countries. Archaeologists discovered its earliest known settlements in Jbail (Byblos), dating back to 5000 BCE. The Fertile Crescent, a region in the Middle East of which Lebanon is a part, was first populated c. 10,000 BCE.
