An icon on the Las Vegas Strip is the Luxor Light Beam and it is now operating at only half-strength. It was first illuminated in 1993 and it still stands as the brightest beam on Earth - it’s said that the beacon is visible from as far as 100 miles away.

Pupils are smaller than they look! They seem as big as they are because they are magnified by the cornea, the transparent cover of the pupil, iris, and anterior chamber. The iris and the pupil work together to expand and contract to make sure the right amount of light enters the eye, allowing us to see.

About 1 to 2 percent of the human population has red hair. Redheads have genes to thank for their tresses. Research shows red hair usually results from a mutation in a gene called MC1R, which codes for the melanocortin-1 receptor. The pigment found in red hair that makes it red is called pheomelanin.
