Japanese schools are famous for providing children with daily lunch – known as ‘kyushokku’. Education authorities ensure all children are fed a varied and healthy diet on a daily basis. Popular dishes include natto (fermented soy-beans, an acquired taste), miso soup, Japanese curry and on special occasions – whale meat!

In 2003, an episode of ‘The Simpsons’ aired where Homer gave his email address as ChunkyLover53@aol.com. Matt Selman, the episode’s writer, signed up for the email address beforehand and after the show aired, found his inbox completely packed to its limit within a matter of minutes!

About 1 to 2 percent of the human population has red hair. Redheads have genes to thank for their tresses. Research shows red hair usually results from a mutation in a gene called MC1R, which codes for the melanocortin-1 receptor. The pigment found in red hair that makes it red is called pheomelanin.
