Science suggests that slit pupils (whether vertical or horizontal) are a result of evolution. They are better able to control the amount of light that enters the eye, especially by keeping light out. This is why nocturnal animals tend to have slit pupils to help them live their lives in the dark.

Producers weren't sure whether or not Jennifer Aniston would be able to play Rachel on Friends because she was also in another pilot. While shooting promo photos, she was asked to step out of a few shots just in case she couldn't appear in the show. Thankfully, this didn't happen!
