The familiar red cross against a white background used by the International Red Cross is actually only one of several symbols they use. A few others include the Red Crescent, the Red Crystal, and the Red Lion and Sun. Their original motto was Inter Arma Caritas, which means "In War, Charity", though it has undergone several iterations since.

The various settings for the Pokémon games before Generation IV all seem to resemble actual places in the south-east of Japan. You can look them up on a map and find very similar coastal sights on the Japanese isle!

The bananas you can buy at your local greengrocer’s are Cavendish bananas, but did you know that people preferred another variety called the Gros Michel? Unfortunately, it became extinct in the 1960s when a fungus wiped out entire harvests.
