The sunset can resemble a spectacular ball of fire as it drops to the horizon because of the Earth’s atmosphere. Our atmosphere acts as a prism, scattering the light and creating a marvelous visual effect. The closer to the horizon the sun dips, the more it starts to lose its blue wavelength hues.
