Superstitions just might work! Scientists believe that people with lucky charms tend to attack a problem for a longer period of time because they feel like they are getting assistance from some other power. When people feel empowered, they usually perform a task at hand better.

In some regions of Japan, traffic lights are red, yellow and blue instead of green. This is due to the Japanese language where for centuries, the same word, “ao”, was used to describe blue and green. A word for green has evolved later, but Japanese traffic law still uses the archaic term.
