The Sullivan Island Light in Charleston, SC is the most powerful lighthouse in the Western Hemisphere. It originally had 28 million candelas, but the light was too strong, and the power was lowered to 1.2 million candelas. Even with this change, light beaming out of this lighthouse can be seen over 26 nautical miles away!
Interesting Fact
The Alamo has quickly established itself as one of the top destinations in the South. The building, a symbol of the turning point of the Texas Revolution, was a Spanish Mission and was established nearly 300 years ago! It had one of the first hospitals in Texas and at one point in time, the city of San Antonio and the U.S. government claimed ownership of the building.

Believe or not, the first McDonald’s was a BBQ shack in San Bernardino, California. Brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald opened the first restaurant in 1940. Eight years after it opened, McDonald’s switched its focus to hamburgers, shakes, and pies. Ray Kroc purchased franchise rights from the brothers and the golden arches appeared across the country, and around the world!
