Spray paint graffiti has transformed how we see our cities. Some see it as a public menace and vandalism, whilst others view it as an opportunity to express art using the city as a canvas. The East Side Gallery in Berlin is the longest stretch remaining of the wall that once divided the city in two, and is alive with vibrant graffiti murals to the cities tumultuous past but also to its united future. But do we know where the humble spray paint can was invented? The windy city itself – Chicago.
