The dragon fruit is actually a cactus! It's native to parts of Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and El Salvador but is now grown in tropical areas all over the world. The name is believed to have originated from its dragon-like appearance including its tough outer layer, complete with spikes that look like scales.
