Hundreds of years ago, Robert Hooke published a book called Micrographia that included hand-drawn images of samples observed under a microscope! Hooke, who we mentioned in a previous fact, is often credited as the discoverer of cells, after studying cork under the microscope.

Newfoundlands are incredibly adept lifeguards. They have webbed feet and water resistant coats and were bred to help people from drowning! They've even been known to try and rescue their owners while their owners were out swimming! Now that's dedication!

The first four-way traffic signal that resembles what we use today was installed in Cleveland, Ohio on August 5,1914. It only had red and green lights and was operated by a police officer. There had been other attempts to control traffic, but the signal in Cleveland was the first-ever successful traffic light.
