American and British English, while sharing many similarities, deviate from each other linguistically in many ways – from spelling to pronunciation to word choice. One thing they have in common, however, is that both versions of the language have undergone significant changes since first spoken.

In the late 1800s, engineers invented an amphibious bicycle known as the “Cyclomer.” It was fitted with four stabilizing, inflated ball wheels that fold down when the user reaches water. Earliest demonstrations of the Cyclomer took place on the Rhine.

Author of the immensely popular children’s fantasy series “The Chronicles of Narnia”, C.S. Lewis was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Surrounded by castles and forests, it’s believed that the environment was a significant inspiration to his work.
