The roar of a lion can be heard up to 5 miles away. The incredible sound is caused by a ligament in the giant cat’s voice box. The ligament stretches, enabling more air to pass across the vocal chords. This ligament is found only in big cats, such as lions, tigers, leopards, and jaguars.
