It's thought that oranges get their name from the Sanskrit word for fragrant – naranja. The use of the word 'orange' to describe a cross between red and yellow wasn't recorded until three hundred years after the fruit appeared in Europe.

For approximately 200 years, microscope technology remained relatively unchanged. In the 1850s, however, Carl Zeiss, a German engineer, developed improvements for the device! Joseph Jackson Lister also helped eliminate the unequal bending of light hitting the microscope lens, leading to further improvements!

Thanks to a law against gluttony by Oliver Cromwell, it’s still technically illegal to eat Christmas pudding on Christmas day! He put the law into place and it was never repealed. Luckily its almost never enforced.
