In 1909, Elspeth McClelland and Daisy Solomon came up with quite an original idea: to get an audience with the British Prime Minister HH Asquith, they had themselves mailed as human letters to 10 Downing Street. The mail was not accepted.

Nicknamed Tabby’s star, one celestial object astounded the astronomers who discovered it. Its brightness would change randomly, prompting one theory that it might be an alien megastructure. It’s now believed to be caused by a large ring of dust.
