Do you enjoy the dense, sour, and earthy taste of rye bread? In summer, villagers often baked bread out of old, stored rye until the new crop could be harvested. However, the rye could be infected with ergot, a fungus that caused hallucinations, gangrene, and could sometimes even be fatal.

There’s a persistent belief that the works of Shakespeare were actually written by someone else – the Earl of Oxford, Francis Bacon and Christopher Marlowe being the top candidates. This questioning of authorship is mostly due to the bias of 19th century scholars who couldn’t accept that such brilliant literature was written by a mere commoner.

In 2014, researchers came up with a game featuring the biggest pop hits from the 1940's. They concluded that ‘Wannabe’ by the Spice Girls was the catchiest song of all time. It took people an average of 2.3 seconds to identify the song! Other catchy songs included ‘Mambo Number Five’ by Lou Bega and Survivor’s ‘Eye of the Tiger’.
