In some regions of Japan, traffic lights are red, yellow and blue instead of green. This is due to the Japanese language where for centuries, the same word, “ao”, was used to describe blue and green. A word for green has evolved later, but Japanese traffic law still uses the archaic term.

Robert Hooke unknowingly discovered plant cells. In 1665, he used a compound microscope to examine a wide variety of objects. On observing the surface of a cork, he noted down 'pores', which were in fact plant cells!

There are plenty of curious roadside attractions scattering U.S. highways. Perhaps the strangest of places is the Corn Palace, which is made entirely out of corn. Strangely enough, the palace is not located in the U.S. corn capital Iowa, but in its north-western neighbor South Dakota, where the venue also hosts concerts, sporting events, and other exhibitions.
