The word ‘harvest’ is an old Norse word which means to ‘gather or pluck'. As people moved around to different cites, ‘harvest’ fell out of use and the city folk began to use ‘fall of the leaf’ which was shortened to just simply ‘fall’ – which is what is commonly used today.
