In the United States jogging was called roadwork. During the 1960s and 1970s, New Zealand coach Arthur Lydiard substituted the word roadwork with jogging and popularized the activity. The idea of jogging as an organized activity soon travelled to Eugene, Oregon, where University of Oregon track coach and Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman published the book Jogging, starting a trend in the United States!
