Oxford may be now renowned as civilized and academic city, but it once played host to a short but brutal war between students and townsfolk! Way back in 1355, a student irked the locals by complaining about his brew in a local tavern. Things got heated, word spread and serfs from around the countryside poured in with cries of “Havac! Havoc! Smyt fadt, give gode knocks!”. The fallout? 30 locals and 60 students dead! Today’s Oxford students better be careful when out at the local Wetherspoons or it could all kick off again.
