Harvard, built in 1636, is the oldest university in the United States and is even older than calculus, which emerged in the late 1600s with the publication of Gottsfeld Leibniz’s “Nova Methodus.” Harvard was originally called New College, but its name was changed after a benefactor, John Harvard, left his estate to the school upon his death.
